Central Coast Stitchworks, led by Melissa, specializes in chainstitch embroidery, a technique done on a single-needle machine that creates a continuous chain stitch guided by hand from underneath. The machines were commonplace from the late 1800s through the 1960s, used for custom bowling shirts, letterman jackets, and western wear, before falling out of fashion. Melissa has brought the craft back with a contemporary eye.

Every item, from sweatshirts and hats to patches and bandanas, is made on that hand-operated machine. Beyond chainstitch, she also offers standard embroidery, custom design work, and patch sewing. She’s also available for live chainstitching at events, personalizing items on the spot for weddings, corporate events, and fundraisers.
